DRY, DULL & LACKLUSTRE HAIR

"Dear LullaBellz. In the Summer months my hair always looks glossy and full of life. But once the winter rolls around, it tends to appear dull and dry to the touch! Are there any products or techniques you can recommend to avoid the dryness this Winter?" - Laura M

LullaBellz: Hey Laura, thank you so much for getting in touch with us! During the winter months, the air tends to be drier, which can lead to dryness and frizziness in your hair. Additionally, the use of indoor heating systems further strips moisture from the air, leaving your hair more prone to dryness and that overall dull appearance. However, don't fret! You can incorporate simple tweaks into your daily routine to help combat hair becoming dry or dull.

Firstly, drinking plenty of water is essential for maintaining hydrated hair. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to keep your hair and scalp moisturised. Ensuring you keep your hydration levels topped up is incredibly beneficial for your skin, nails and overall health, too.

Next up is switching to a moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner specifically designed for dry hair. Look for products that contain ingredients such as Argan Oil, Shea Butter or Coconut Oil, which help to intensely hydrate and nourish your hair. Treat your locks to a deep conditioning treatment once a week such as Revive & Thrive Hair Mask, which boosts softness in the hair and aids in repairing split ends. When shopping for Conditioners, look for a deeply nourishing Conditioner that is specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair. Leave it on for around 10-15 mins to allow the ingredients to penetrate the hair shaft and provide intense hydration.

Last but not least, washing your hair too frequently during the colder months can strip away its natural oils, leading to dryness. Try to wash your hair every other day or every few days to allow your scalp's natural oils to nourish and hydrate your hair. By following these tips, you can combat dry hair and keep your locks healthy and hydrated throughout the winter cool months. We hope that this helps!

SHAMPOO S.O.S!

"Dear LullaBellz. My natural hair is really thick and prone to frizz. How do I find a Shampoo and Conditioner that will work for my hair type? What do you recommend?" - Ella B

LullaBellzHey Ella! Thanks so much for your question (and what a great one it is!). Most people when purchasing haircare products may not think to look twice at the bottle which entails the type of hair that a Shampoo or Conditioner is suitable for. And more interestingly, Shampoos and Conditioners aren't just a generic 'one size fits all ', meaning most formulas are specified to cater towards individual hair colours, types and textures. By purchasing products which are specially made for your hair type, you can ensure that you're making the most out of your haircare, and actually seeing visible results. This is because each type has its own unique characteristics and requires specific care.

As you have mentioned your hair is prone to frizz, the main culprit here is moisture imbalance. Thick hair often has a higher level of natural moisture, which can lead to frizz when exposed to humidity. Additionally, the cuticle layer of thick hair is more raised, making it easier for moisture to penetrate and cause frizz.

When choosing a shampoo and conditioner for thick, frizz-prone hair, opt for products that contain moisturising ingredients. Look for ingredients like Shea Butter, Argan Oil or Glycerin, as these help to hydrate and nourish the hair - reducing frizz. Avoid products that contain harsh sulphates, as they can actually strip away moisture and exacerbate frizz.

Many hair care brands offer specific anti-frizz formulas designed to combat and tame unruly hair. These products often contain ingredients like silicone, which create a protective barrier around the hair shaft, preventing moisture from entering and causing frizz. Look for Shampoos and Conditioners labeled as "anti-frizz" or "smoothing" for the best results. We hope this helps!
